MCNLL 11U All Stars Capture State Crown

The Martin County North Little League 11U All star team made history on Sunday.  Comprised of Ryan Baum, Cody Bennin, Luke Ciliberti, Graham Garner, Tanner Hughes, Caden Kokinda, Aiden Levy, Baron Meister, Noah Monsour, Will Perry, Logan Saake, Michael Sanchez, Austin Sonnenberg, and Sal Yonta, Jr., the team beat Northeast St. Petersburg, 3-2, at Dr. Phillips Park in Orlando to win its first Florida State Championship in the 9-10-11 Division.

The road to becoming State Champions began in Port St. Lucie, where over the course of two weeks, the team won the District 17 title.  The deciding game was a dominant 12-2 effort over Port St. Lucie Southwest.  Luke Ciliberti had 4 hits and Logan Saake pitched a complete game.

A week later, the team traveled to Delray Beach for the Section 2 tournament where they were once again victorious.  An 11-1 victory over West Boynton set up the championship game against Eau Gallie.  MCN jumped out early, and riding Will Perry's 5 hits and 7 rbi day, took the title 13-7.

The team took their role representing the Treasure Coast and Southeast Florida seriously in the State Championship at Dr. Phillips Park in Orlando, winning two out of 3 games in pool play over the course of two days to advance to the Championship.  Excitement was high going into the title game against Northeast St. Petersburg on Sunday.

The opponents scored 2 runs early, but MCNLL pitcher Logan Saake remained calm under pressure and the team showed their toughness as they fought until the last out was registered.  In their last at bat in the top of the 6th inning Martin County North hitters finally broke through.  Aiden Levy led off with a single to right, followed by a tripe from Luke Ciliberti to score their first run.  An error on Will Perry's grounder to 1st plated Ciliberti to tie the game.  Pinch runner Noah Monsour stole second base on a daring dropped 3rd strike and with one out, Baron Meister laced a ball to right field that eluded the fielder and scored what was to become the winning run.  Saake then shut down Northeast in the bottom of the inning, recording the final out on a soft comebacker to the mound.  Fans and players alike exploded in celebration.

The team, which is managed by Chris Kokinda and coached by Joe Ciliberti, Seth Levy, Tim Monsour and Sal Yonta Sr. celebrated their big win post game, running the field with their State Champions banner, chanting "Martin County" and spraying bottles of Perrier.

They will now represent the state of Florida at the Little League Tournament of State Champions in Greenville, NC, beginning July 27.The week long tournament will also include the state champions from Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the team with the next step in their journey. https://www.gofundme.com/mcnll-11u-fl-state-champs-to-nc
