MCNLL New Division Baseball Division
MCNLL Adds New Baseball Division
We are excited to announce that our Board of Directors has voted to expand our baseball program to include a new division between Tee ball and Machine Pitch. That new division will be Coach Pitch. From here on, we will have five (previously 4) baseball divisions for players from 4-12 years old and a full complement of upper divisions. The composition of each baseball division will be divided as follows:
Ages Division
4-5-6 Tee ball
6-7 Coach Pitch
7-8-9 Machine Pitch
8-9-10-11 Minors
10-11-12 Majors
13 50/70
13-14 Juniors
15-16 Seniors
We are not changing how teams are selected. As we do every season, players from 7 to 12 years old will be evaluated by the league and its managers. The players will then be selected to play in the league that is most appropriate and consistent with their skill level. (A six-year-old may evaluate to receive consideration to play in Coach Pitch. Without evaluation, the player will be placed on a Tee ball team.)
The primary and immediate goal at every division level will continue to be the development and growth of our players. This begins with a focus on fundamentals. The addition of Coach Pitch allows for a smoother transition above Tee ball and addresses the rapid rise in the number of young players in our program. Based on early registration, we are anticipating a 20% increase this season in the number of baseball players in our program. It is our intention that the addition of Coach Pitch will allow us to keep each division at no more than 10 teams.
While the Board of Directors is still working on the specific rules for each league, you can be assured that not much will change from past seasons. The most obvious changes, however, will be experienced at the Machine Pitch level where batters will face pitch velocities and game situations that are more consistent with what they will face in the Minors and Majors.
These changes will not affect softball. Our softball program will include Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, Juniors and Seniors.
We look forward to seeing all our baseball and softball players and their families at our evaluations. Baseball will hold its evaluations at Citrus Grove Park on January 6, 2024 with a make-up date of January 8.
Softball evaluations will be held at Justin Wilson Park on January 8 and 9 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
