Softball FAQs

When is registration?
Registration for the upcoming Spring 2024 season begins on November 1, 2023.  The registration fee is $135; however, if you register during the month of November, there is a $10 discount. Registration can be done online at www.mcnll.com.  Registration will be open through player evaluations and the fee includes hat, jersey, belt, socks, and pants.  Players will need to supply their own helmet, fielding mask, glove, bat, and cleats.

Opening day will be February 17, with T-Ball games starting on February 16.  Practices will begin a few weeks prior to opening day.

What division should my child play?
When registering, you will be pointed to the appropriate division based on your player's league age. League age is determined by the Little League Softball Age Chart and the age determination date for softball is the actual age of the player on December 31 of the previous year. You must register for the division based on their league age. However, if a player would like to be considered to play in another division, this will be determined though the player evaluation process and the player MUST attend the evaluations for both divisions.

We do realize there will be situations in which players should be considered for other divisions outside of their league age.  For instance, former MCGFP players who have already played in the Coach Pitch division, but their Little League division based on league age is T-Ball. Please register your player for the T-Ball division and the player will need to attend the Coach Pitch evaluation.

What are boundary lines? And what happens if my player falls outside the boundary line?
MCNLL serves most of PC, parts of Stuart, and Jensen Beach. All players in a local league must either reside in or attend school within the boundary of the league. The boundary map for MCNLL can be found at www.mcnll.com. Please check the boundary map to determine eligibility before registering. There is a waiver process that can be completed and must be approved for any player seeking to play in a league that is outside of their boundary map.

For players who participated in MCGFP during the Fall 2023 season and are outside the boundary lines and wish to register for MCNLL: Please register through MCNLL for the division in which is determined by your league age.  Waivers will be submitted on your behalf for the exception; however, it has already been approved by our District Administrator for these players to continue to play with their same softball community. Please note that once a waiver is approved, the player will remain part of the league for all subsequent seasons unless that player skips a season for whatever reason.

What are evaluations? And why are they conducted?
All players who register to participate in a Coach Pitch, Minor, or Major division MUST participate in an evaluation in order to be eligible to play. If a player has an acceptable reason for missing the evaluations, then the board of directors can review and approve the player for them to be drafted and placed on a team.

During the evaluation, each player will be graded in five main areas: batting, fielding fly balls, fielding ground balls, throwing, and baserunning. The scores of the evaluation are then utilized as managers work through the draft process and create teams. Evaluations and drafts ensure players end up in appropriate divisions and that all teams in a division are made up of players with equal talent and skills.  The league and players benefit the most when all teams within a division are equally competitive.

Softball evaluations will be held on January 8 and 9.

What will be the practice and game schedules?
We will not know practice and game schedules until we complete the registration and evaluation process.  Parents can expect that T-Ball and Coach Pitch will likely have two practices per week in the preseason and one practice and one game per week during the regular season. Other divisions are still to be determined but will likely have two practices per week in the preseason and a mix of practices and games (up to two per week) during the regular season.

Currently, all practices and games are expected to be held at Justin Wilson Park in Palm City.  However, additional fields may be utilized due to higher enrollment numbers and scheduling conflicts.

As a parent, how can I get involved?
Little League is a volunteer organization and our ability to run a great program is not possible without the help of countless volunteers. We always need Team Managers, Coaches, Team Parents, Umpires, and general volunteers. If you are interested, please select a volunteer role and fill out the appropriate information when registering your player for one of our divisions. Background checks will be performed on volunteers.

Also, ALL parents/guardians are required to work concession duties during the season. It is strongly suggested that parents read and understand the Policy and Procedures of the League, which can be found on www.mcnll.com.
